The program is designed to enhance leadership skills, improve problem-solving capabilities and increase cooperation with peers when assigned to a group initiative. HERD 100 is a program that aids in the transition from middle school to high school. The program will take place on Wednesday, July 31st and Thursday, August 1st, 2019 (8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on 7/31/19 and 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on 8/1/19). Please keep in mind that students will need to have transportation to and from the Swartz Building on both days. Lunch will be provided for Day One and a bag lunch will be needed for Day Two. Students should bring a marked water bottle full of their favorite sports drink/water for both days. Please make the necessary arrangements to have your child dropped off at the Swartz Building clock tower entrance no later than 8:30 a.m. on 7/31/19.  Your student will need to be picked up at 3:00 p.m.  Students should be dropped off no later than 7:20 a.m. on 8/1/19.  We will then board buses to the Diakon Wilderness Camp.  The buses will return to the Swartz Building by 4:00 p.m.  Students should dress as they would for P.E. class and in accordance with the school district’s dress code. Sneakers and athletic wear is required.  Jeans, skirts or sandals are not permitted. A twenty ($20) dollar registration fee will help offset the costs for the HERD 100 program. Your child will be furnished with a HERD 100 T-shirt, lunch, and two full days of leadership training.


A scholarship fund is available for those families in need of financial assistance. A written “letter of need” must be submitted to the ninth-grade office by 7/12/19. The ninth-grade principal will then contact the family to discuss the situation.
