After a long, difficult 2020-2021 school year, we are excited to announce that Herd 100, the annual Freshman Orientation Program, is back!!

 

Herd 100 is designed to enhance leadership skills, improve problem-solving capabilities, and increase cooperation with peers when assigned to a group initiative. HERD 100 is a program that aids in the transition from middle school to high school. The program will take place on Tuesday, August 3rd and Wednesday, August 4th. Please keep in mind that students will need to have transportation to and from the Swartz Building on both days.

 

There will be some changes to the program this year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, but we will be taking every measure to keep your students and our staff safe.

Updates: (as of 7/19/2021)

  • The mask policy has been updated for CASD. Students are allowed to choose at their own discretion if they would like to wear a mask or not during the Herd 100 Program. We encourage students to make a decision that is best for their situation individually and at home. 
  • We will continue to plan for appropriate social distancing as required by CASD. 
  • We are returning to our original structure of years past of Day 1 (August 3rd) at Swartz/CHS and Day 2 (August 4th) at Diakon! 
  • The Herd 100 team will be providing Lunch (Pizza and Soft drinks/water) for students on Day 1 (August 3rd) of the Herd 100 Program. Unfortunately, if a student has dietary restrictions, they will need to provide their own lunch on Day 1. Students will still need to bring a lunch for Day 2 (August 4th) at Diakon. 
  • These new policies are subject to change with updates in district, state, and national protocols.
 

Students will be assigned to one of two large groups; “Group A” will spend Day 1 (8/3) at the Swartz Building participating in transition and high school readiness activities, as well as team building challenges and initiatives. “Group B” will be transported by bus to the Diakon Wilderness Center on South Mountain to participate in both Low Ropes and High Ropes challenges, facilitated by trained staff. On Day 2, groups will switch activities. These large groups will then be broken into 5-6 smaller groups through the days.

 

You will receive group assignments and updated information near the end of July.

 

· All activities, challenges, and initiatives will be specifically chosen or modified to fit proper social-distancing protocols.

 

· Participation will be limited to 140 students

 

Students should dress as they would for P.E. class and in accordance with the school district’s dress code. Sneakers and athletic wear is required. Jeans, skirts, or sandals are not permitted. Bug spray and sunscreen recommended. 

 

A twenty ($20) dollar registration fee will help offset the costs for the HERD 100 program. Your child will be furnished with a HERD 100 T-shirt, CHS Spirit Items, and two full days of leadership training and challenges.

*A scholarship fund is available for those families in need of financial assistance. A written “letter of need” must be submitted to the ninth-grade office by 07/15/21. The ninth-grade principal will then contact the family to discuss the situation.
